Safety Rules for Pre Schoolers
These are rules for children too young to read. Parents, don't frighten your child, but review these rules often, and ask "what if" questions to make sure they understand.
- Don't go anywhere without asking your parents' or sitter's permission.
- When you're playing outside, make sure that your parents/caregiver can see you.
- Have a secret code word with your parents in case of emergency, and don't share it with anyone.
- Don't accept rides from anyone unless you have your parents' or sitters' permission.
- Don't play alone - always play with friends when you're playing outside.
- Don't accept candy, presents or money from strangers.
- If you are followed by anyone on foot or in a car, YELL for help and run.
- Know your last name, address and phone number, and how to dial 911.
- Know your parents names, phone numbers and work numbers.
- Never let anyone touch you in places your bathing suit normally covers up, or in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable. If this happens,TELL your parents or an adult you trust, right away.
- When you're in trouble or scared, go to one of the safe places in your neighbourhood.
- If you get separated in a store or mall, tell someone with a nametag right away that you need help finding your parents. Don't keep wandering around and don't leave the store.
- If an adult asks you for help, for instance to help find a lost puppy, say "NO" and go and tell your parents or teacher. Adults should ask adults for help, not children.
